fnatic and Astana Dragons are both through to the ESWC playoffs after finishing in the top two places in Group C. After defeating AD on Saturday in what was the last match of the day, fnatic had one foot in the knockout stages as they knew that neither ALTERNATE nor ATE Gaming would be able to put up as much of a fight as the CIS-based side. The Swedish giants arrived at the venue to take on ALTERNATE, the winner of the German ESWC qualifier, and it completely was a one-sided match, with the former Berzerk side suffering a 2-16 defeat. Andreas "MODDII" Fridh set the tone here, the former 1.6 star having scored 2.46 rating in the match. The final, group match, against the Indian side, ended with the same scoreline, meaning that fnatic top Group C.
The decision about which team would take the second place came down to the final group match between ALTERNATE and Astana Dragons, with the German side trailing by 5-10 at the break. In the second half ALTERNATE were able to cause a few upsets here and there, breaking through AD's defence on the B bombsite a couple of times, but the CIS-based side picked up the six rounds they needed to win the match and progress to the playoffs. Group D, starring compLexity, Clan-Mystik, LGB eSports and ETERNiTY, will kick off at 14:30 . Stay tuned to HLTV.org for all the action. |
